*Basilica of Saint Franciscus
*Santa Chiara church

*Parental house Saint Franciscus (close to Chiesa Nuova)

Tip eten:
: Vicolo S di S. Antonio, 1 (Piazza Chiesa Nuova)

Outside Assisi:
*Eremo delle Carceri: follow directions to “PARCO MONTE SUBASIO”/”EREMO DELLE CARCERI” (SP251)

*Monte Subasio: Drive over Monte Subasio for a unique view of Umbria.
Collepino/Spello: Continue over the mountain but always stay on the STRADA MONTE SUBASIO towards COLLEPINO and then SPELLO

Around Assisi by bike? Contact bicycle rental Paolo Tordoni.  He also provides information for various tours including, for example: Bike & Taste, a tour where you can also taste organic wine along the way Tili Vini.  A wonderful experience with 2 top ladies, mother and daughter!

Trip Gubbio

Montone - Pietralunga

Gubbio is somewhat remote from Assisi and Perugia. We therefore advise against combining Gubbio with these cities.  (There is a market in Gubbio on Tuesday, so it is better to do the tour in reverse order)

A beautiful tour is to drive to MONTONE first instead of directly to Gubbio. You can get there fairly quickly via the highway and a stretch of mountain road:

Very pleasant walk through the small streets, beautiful panorama and a cappuccino or caffè in the local bar.

From there it goes towards Pietralunga, not a special town in itself, but if you arrive around noon you can eat in a restaurant with very decent food and a beautiful terrace with a view over the region: Ristorante e pizzeria Locanda dei Fiorucci

Once satisfied, you take a beautiful road to Gubbio where you can easily spend an entire afternoon and evening.

An oversupply of restaurants and not actually a specific tip: look carefully at the prices if the restaurants use the word “giardino” or “Lupo”. Usually the extra cost is not worth it.

In Gubbio:
Tourism Department
Teatro Romano:
Palazzo dei Consoli:
Palazzo Pretorio:
In any case, walking through all the streets is very pleasant, don't miss the Quartiere San Martino:
Chiesa di San Domenico:
Convento di San Francesco:
Museo di Palazzo Ducale:
Funevia naar de Basilica Sant’Ubaldo:
Basilica di Sant’Ubaldo:

  • Metered parking! Remember your license plate because you have to enter it for your ticket
  • Partly metered, partly free: the unpaved part (left when you come through the gate) is free, the asphalted part is metered (right when you come through the gate). The general rule for parking in Italy: white = free, blue = metered, yellow = disabled or residents.

Of course you don't have to visit all the churches, but if you follow these monuments more or less, the result is a beautiful walk.

Trip Marmore waterfalls

Trip: Rasiglia - Scheggino – Marmore Waterfalls – Piediluco lake – Spoleto

The stages are merely a suggestion, you obviously don't necessarily have to do them all:

There: GPS = no highways!

·        Rasiglia:

o   Beautiful village where fabrics used to be woven and colored. A river was led through the village, which required a lot of water for the activities. Video:

·        Scheggino:

o   Hiking village located on the Nera river. Also visit the truffle museum!

·        (Possible stopover) Ferentillo, Mummies museum:

o   The village itself is nothing special, although it is nice to walk up a bit from the museum.

o   The museum is small, but interesting as you can pick up a little bit of local history.

·        Waterfalls of the Marmore: (link to parking above)

o   Attention: consult the website for the timetable! The water is diverted to the hydroelectric power station at certain hours:

o   Beautiful walk (sturdy footwear!!).

o   Best to drive to the top of the falls and do the walk down. Be careful, wet hiking trail!

o   At the end of the walk there are shuttles that will take you back up for a small price.

·        Piediluco lake:

o   Pleasant trattoria, da Marilù:

o   Definitely take a stroll around the old part of the city

·        Spoleto

Back: GPS = highways
