Trip Assisi

Santa Maria degli Angeli - Eremo delle Carceri - Collepino - Spello

Preferably drive inland (not via highway) along Torchiagina, Passaggio d'Asssi towards Santa Maria Degli Angeli
If you prefer to avoid or visit Santa Maria Degli Angeli afterwards use this route description.

Do not miss:

*Basilica of Saint Franciscus
*Santa Chiara church

*Parental house Saint Franciscus (close to Chiesa Nuova)

Tip eten:

Around Assisi by bike? Contact bicycle rental Paolo Tordoni.  He also provides information for various tours including, for example: Bike & Taste, a tour where you can also taste organic wine along the way Tili Vini.  A wonderful experience with 2 top ladies, mother and daughter!

Trip Gubbio

Montone - Pietralunga

Gubbio is somewhat remote from Assisi and Perugia. We therefore advise against combining Gubbio with these cities.  (There is a market in Gubbio on Tuesday, so it is better to do the tour in reverse order)

A beautiful tour is to drive to MONTONE first instead of directly to Gubbio. You can get there fairly quickly via the highway and a stretch of mountain road: https://goo.gl/maps/3oGxCiZX3SQvcQkTA

Very pleasant walk through the small streets, beautiful panorama and a cappuccino or caffè in the local bar.

From there it goes towards Pietralunga, not a special town in itself, but if you arrive around noon you can eat in a restaurant with very decent food and a beautiful terrace with a view over the region: Ristorante e pizzeria Locanda dei Fioruccihttps://goo.gl/maps/NcyJNDZRSYDQJVc48

Once satisfied, you take a beautiful road to Gubbio where you can easily spend an entire afternoon and evening. https://goo.gl/maps/aYhS34N1pAyYVBD49

An oversupply of restaurants and not actually a specific tip: look carefully at the prices if the restaurants use the word “giardino” or “Lupo”. Usually the extra cost is not worth it.

In Gubbio:

Chiesa di San Domenico: https://goo.gl/maps/f8HGKgMqjKXrbzpX6
Convento di San Francesco: https://goo.gl/maps/mY69hs1QUbWwtL4GA

PARKING GUBBIO:

  • https://maps.app.goo.gl/mRJGztCp4dv9xdHs5: Metered parking! Remember your license plate because you have to enter it for your ticket
  • https://maps.app.goo.gl/cvMw9dLYd7vBPV4r9: Partly metered, partly free: the unpaved part (left when you come through the gate) is free, the asphalted part is metered (right when you come through the gate). The general rule for parking in Italy: white = free, blue = metered, yellow = disabled or residents.

Of course you don't have to visit all the churches, but if you follow these monuments more or less, the result is a beautiful walk. https://goo.gl/maps/4FD76WBdZAPWfaPv7

There: GPS = no highways!

·        Rasiglia: https://goo.gl/maps/9riPh51e6c1U1i5T7

·        Scheggino: https://goo.gl/maps/7S3nHAYbZeGvG2NW9

o   Hiking village located on the Nera river. Also visit the truffle museum!

·        Waterfalls of the Marmore: https://goo.gl/maps/JMFaWFHA7k6kULwh7 (link to parking above)

o   Attention: consult the website for the timetable! The water is diverted to the hydroelectric power station at certain hours: www.lecascatedellemarmore.com
